About me

Hi my name is Laila Nasr, I’m 18 years old and I am of Palestinian and Lebanese origin. I was born and raised in Dubai – UAE, and just moved to Lebanon last month. I went to Emirates International School and completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in the following subjects; English Language and Literature, Economics, and Business at higher levels, and Biology, Maths, and French at standard levels. Successfully completing the IB program has prepared me for the high levels of work that AUB demands; from research methods, to writing 4000 word extended essays. At AUB, I am a sophomore majoring in Economics and minoring in English Literature; the two subjects that never fail to grab my attention at any time.
Outside of academics, I enjoy team sports namely basketball, netball, rounders, and athletics. For the last 4 years, I’ve been working as a professional netball umpire in the Dubai Women’s Netball League. In addition to playing and umpiring, I also used to coach the younger netball teams to gain expertise in all aspects of the game. My favourite band is Florence + The Machine, I’ve seen them live twice in concert; once in Germany and once in Dubai (best days of my life). I also appreciate a good book to read; I’m currently reading “The Bastard of Istanbul” by Elif Shafak.

P.S. If you have any book recommendations please do let me know :)

  1. Where do I START. 1. I LOVE THAT YOU ARE MINORING IN ENGLISH! 2. Florence and the Machine are one of my favorite bands. I saw them in Michigan. What a voice. 3. Elif Shafak is not my favorite author. Read Ahdaf Soueif!
