Summary - The revolution will not be polite

For the sake of social justice, people should stop conflating niceness and goodness. Usually, people think that being just with others involves being nice to them, that niceness is an important / essential component of social justice. Actually, social justice is concerned about fighting marginalization of people and/or privilege granted to others, whereas niceness is too often used by malicious people to dominate those who trust them because they think that a nice person is necessarily a good one. Also, not being nice to someone does not mean that you are oppressing him/her. Niceness has to do with feelings and oppression has to do with people’s rights that are not granted to them because of who they are. In brief, people need to realize that acting nicely and being a good person are two different things. It is necessary so that the social justice movement can move on.

  1. Check moodle for your grade. Careful not to plagiarize "conflation". Does she say niceness is used as oppression or as guise or mask for something else? Good end.
